GPSA 2023 Annual Conference

St. Simons Island, Georgia, 8-10 November 2023.

Conference Theme: The Scope of Conflict

This year has been defined by conflict. In 1960, Political Scientist E. E. Schattschneider described politics in terms of the scope of conflict. He theorized that political outcomes are determined by which outside actors become involved in the conflict. Winners and losers are determined by who joins the fight. Knowing the scope of the conflict allows us to understand the struggle between individuals, groups, and nations. Schattschneider’s sixty-year-old theory shows how relevant and essential Political Science remains to understand our world. Once again, let us come together to share research and teaching strategies, hoping they will contribute to our understanding of conflicts within and across societies.

We, therefore, invite and encourage faculty, independent scholars, practitioners, graduate students, and undergraduate students (with faculty sponsor) to submit their research to the 54th Annual Georgia Political Science Conference to be held Nov. 8-10, 2023, in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Papers will be accepted from all fields of Political Science and related disciplines. We welcome undergraduate poster sessions, undergraduate research panels, and scholarship of teaching and learning proposals. Once presented, scholars and faculty members are encouraged to submit their papers for publication consideration in our edited and refereed annual proceedings, Questions in Politics.

Please submit your proposal via the Proposal Submission Form.

Please note, that proposals do not have to relate directly to the theme of the conference. If you encounter any issues, please address all questions to this year’s Program Chair, Kristina LaPlant at klaplant@uwlax.edu. Additionally, if you have any ideas for special undergraduate panels, workshops, or sessions, please send them directly to our Program Chair.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 15 July 2023. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 1 September 2023.
